Contracting parties have an interest in having their contracts performed and the protection of this interest is one, though not the only, legitimate ambition of remedies following breach of contract. This chapter examines how this performance interest may be realised through an award of damages, some of the limitations which may reasonably be set on the availability of such awards and how the case law reveals an, as yet, only imperfect grasp of these ideas.
