Trump or not, Obama’s successor may seek to trim America’s sails internationally
[Online resource]
There is growing worry among world leaders at the possibility that Donald Trump may well be the next president of the United States, and what that might mean for the country’s role in the world. In recent weeks, the Obama administration has taken great pains to reassure those who have been concerned. On the eve of what is likely to be President Obama’s final visit to the UK whilst in office, LSE US Centre Director, Peter Trubowitz looks at what kind of foreign policy agenda his successor might pursue. He argues that the challenge that faces whoever enters the White House next year will be to reconcile the international demand for continued US leadership with America’s shrinking domestic political willingness to supply it.
