This report analyses the role of insurance in climate change adaptation. It asserts that the insurance sector plays a major role in delivering risk reduction that increases adaptive capacity and resilience due to its expertise in loss reduction and risk management. It contains ten case studies from different countries and insurers, which illustrate how the sector approaches the challenge of rising risk levels and provide lessons learned for the industry and external stakeholders. It is aimed at the insurance industry and external stakeholders, such as policy makers, adaptation and risk management practitioners, and the wider public, all of whom have an interest in reducing climate risk.
