Legal cosmopolitanism and the normative contribution of the right to development

This paper is concerned with the legal responsibilities of states for the violation of socio-economic rights globally. In particular, it considers the normative function of the right to development in offering a legal framework with the potential to humanize the global marketplace. It provides that the right to development has an important juridical contribution to make given the defining features of the international economic order, with the most salient element of this right found in its potential challenge to existing political and economic global arrangements.
