There are now many calls for the reform of the Press Complaints Commission, for a rethink about how best to protect personal privacy, whilst paying sufficient regard to the importance of free and independent media in a democratic country. Those who can afford lengthy court battles are using the Human Rights Act to sue newspapers that print material obtained through intrusive means, but redress should still be available to everyone through the press complaints commission.
