Political jurisprudence is a modern school of thought that emerges as classical natural law declines. It arises from the contention that the two most influential, though competing, modern legal theories – those of natural rights and legal positivism – fail to offer robust accounts of how law founds its claim to authority. These underlying themes of political jurisprudence are introduced through an analysis of Max Weber's reflections on the vocations of science and politics.
