Parents and children are now using social media more than ever. Prior research has reported both positive and negative effects of social media on family capital. We undertake a case study approach to investigate perceptions held by parents and children on the role of social media in building family capital, and how the use of social media is affecting their relationships. Our preliminary findings highlight the diametrically opposite opinions held by parents and children on the use of social media. Further, the findings shed light on how social media is transforming parent-child relationships.
