In High-Reliability Organizations where unexpected events can have fatal consequences, it is necessary to respond effectively and recover quickly to achieve high and reliable performance. Given that resilient healthcare organizations depend greatly on coordination mechanisms and actors' collaboration, this paper investigates resilience when the practice is physically distributed and relies on technology as a medium of coordination and less on actors' interaction. To develop a theory of technology-mediated resilience, we draw on Relational Coordination Theory to exploit essential elements of relationships and communication. We propose an ethnography study in three Emergency Departments (ED) that utilize a telemedicine system to treat stroke patients. Initial findings allow us to propose a framework of technology-mediated resilience to achieve healthcare ecosystem resilience.
