Most of the 12 essays are revised from presentations at a March 2000 colloquium in Leeds, England. Scholars of criminology and politics, mostly from Britain but also elsewhere in Europe, look at such topics as violence in the age of uncertainty, insecurity and the policing of cyberspace, and the question of trust in issues in local community safety.
