(When) does democratisation reduce state repression?
[Poster]. LSE Research Festival 2019: New World (Dis)Orders, London School of Economics, London, United Kingdom, GBR.
It is established knowledge that democracy is associated with less repression. However, the effect of regime changes, i.e. democratisations, may be ambiguous. Using a theoretical model and econometric techniques, I find evidence that democratisations only lead to reductions in repression in countries with sufficiently high income.
