When agency trumps structure: modern problems and historical lessons from the UK and the US

My research provides novel insights into protectionism and mercantilism explaining the interwar collapse of the international trade regime through local-level policy decisions and the role of leading individuals. It engages with archival policy records spanning dozens of collections and offers the international political economy analysis from a historical data perspective.
