A tale of two cities

In a country with little dedicated to remembering that period, Beirut's Holiday Inn serves as a reminder of Lebanon’s civil war. The ruins also remind us that, at one point, Beirut had been a different city – one whose inhabitants were optimistic enough to build a multistory hotel.
